I didn't need this book to master saltstack

I want to start with this first. This books adds no value to what saltstack website provides. I started learning salt stack for few weeks and after one week I was able to deploy it successfully with many states files. After two weeks of learning I was able to replace puppet with salt by just reading saltstack online documentation. I though this book will be able to help to do more complex stuff. But I am totally disappointed. Frankly speaking I just read the book for 30 minutes and found nothing which can help me to understand it more. It seems to me that best place to learn saltsatk is going through their website. May be I was expecting too much from this book and got too little.

I am so glad that we get to see Fawkes get his story; we meet Fawkes in Book 2 after he helps the triad and hunter escape from hell. A longtime friend of Bailin he knows that he doesn't have to follow in his father's footsteps, which happens to be the Devil himself, and instead become a Demon of good just as Bailin has. But now that he has chosen the path of good and humanity what is helping to do now, he needs a mate or he will die.

Leslie is one tortured soul all because he brother was a power hungry wolf. After being rid of his torturous reign over her she now has to decide what she wants to do with her life and what kind of wolf she wants to become.

When two very lost souls find each other and finally find hope you can't help but be elated that two of our favorite side characters in the Dante's Circle series find each other.

I give His Choice 5 out of 5, and I am very happy that Carrie Ann gave Fawkes and Leslie their story.

This is a short sweet sexy romp that will convince you that you need to read the other books in this series.

Yay! We get Fawkes story. We met Fawkes in Her Warriors' Three Wishes (Dante's Circle #2) when he helped fellow demon Balin and the werewolf Beta, Hunter (who’s story we get in An Unlucky Moon (Dante's Circle #3)) escape from hell. Now Fawkes is in his time of transition and has to decide whether he is going to go the way Balin did or follow his father’s plan and take a soul. Fawkes’ mate isn’t one of the ladies from Dante’s Circle so I guess that makes this a spin off. This is a short sweet sexy romp that will convince you that you need to read the other books in this series.

I loved reading about how Fawkes found his mate and leslie is perfect for him. They balance each other out.

Fawkes is a daemon. Not just any daemon he is the son of Satan himself or one of his sons. He is at the crossroads to choose. Will he take souls or try to find his mate and rid himself of that evil fate of taking souls? His dad tries to make his choice for him which I believe only helped resolve Fawkes on a different path. See Fawkes isn't like other daemons. He is nice, helps those that need it. Sees right and wrong and weighs the options. A great daemon if that is possible.

So when he makes his choice, it does confuse him for now he must find his way. His friends are there to support and help him but as he forges to find a mate and one continuously isn't found he does get depressed. This is when Hunter steps in and brings him to his pack.

And where he meets the sweet and submissive wolf Leslie. Leslie has faced atrocities and sadness. She is now one that people scoff and ridicule but also want for her pure blood. She is a gentle wolf strange to say but true. Violence is not something she desires. Understands when necessary but doesn't like it. When her and Fawkes meet there is instant connection. But they are both lost and Leslie being a submissive waits for Fawkes to say something. Fawkes doesn't because he is giving her space to find herself.

This helps them both find peace within. When Leslie is threatened it is Fawkes who protects and leslie asks him to stand down and he does. When Fawkes has to fight Leslie doesn't like it but understands.

When Fawkes is threatened Leslie protects and this helps her with the waging war inside herself. When these two finally mate you will smile such a beautiful bonding.

“Quality of Life” and “Health Outcomes” and other terms referring to the physical, mental and emotional effects experienced by people as they encounter health challenges are in wide use and misuse in the health care and health research community. Many of these terms are used interchangeably without recognizing that they have completely different meanings and, thus, require different measurement approaches and different types of interventions if they are to be optimized. The notion of creating a “dictionary” of these terms arose so that novices and experts, researchers and clinicians, can commonly address these health outcome challenges. The correct term for this collection of definitions is a “vocabulary for a vertical audience” as the definitions reflect the usage in QOL and health outcomes measurement rather than all usages and the definitions were written to have meaning for the novice while still being useful for the expert

As a starting point for the vocabulary, terms were chosen based on the frequency of use in journal articles focussing on of quality of life research. The terms fall broadly into 8 concepts all of which have an identified need for consistent and correct terminology: research process, measurement properties, statistics for QOL research, designs for QOL research, patient reported outcomes (PROs), theories and models, knowledge translation, and personal factors. Rather than being “A malevolent literary device for cramping the growth of a language and making it hard and inelastic” (Ambrose Bierce, The Devil’s Dictionary), “This dictionary, however, is a most useful work.” (Ambrose Bierce, The Devil’s Dictionary).

To avoid the “devil”, terms reflecting modern advances in outcomes research and design were included even they may not yet be in common usage in QOL research. For example, while designs like the stepped wedge or platform trials may not yet have penetrated the world of QOL research, they will not if no one knows about them. More than 20 people contributed definitions and following editing, the dictionary was opened up for review and comment from members of ISOQOL and their suggestions and modifications were included, adding a component of peer review to the process.

Nancy E. Mayo, PhD Nancy Mayo is a Professor at McGill University in the Department of Medicine, Division of Clinical Epidemiology, and School of Physical and Occupational Therapy. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, she trained as a Physical Therapist at Queen’s University, and after several years of working clinically, she completed a doctoral degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, at McGill University. She has been educating health professionals and clinical researchers for over 25 years and has published over 200 scientific works in the peer reviewed medical literature as well as contributing to collective works such as Medical Uses of Statistics 4th Edition (Ed. Bailar and Hoaglin) and Physical Rehabilitation Outcome Measures (Finch, Brooks, Stafford, Mayo). Mayo has also written a number of scientific papers specifically related to education on research methods and statistics. The Dictionary of Quality of Life and Health Outcomes Measurement was inspired by students and was assembled as a way of helping novices and experts alike to “speak the same language” about measuring these important health outcomes; essentially, the intent was to improve the research-related quality of life of people working in this important field.

The story opens the morning after Ob-Gyn Ellen Markowitz spends the night with her senior partner, Dr. Hall Talbot, a three-time divorcee and father of four. Instead of bringing the couple more tightly together, however, that night-particularly the point when Hall utters the name of his long-ago love, Annie-pushes them farther apart. Certain that Hall still carries a torch for Annie, Ellen tries to ignore her attraction to him. But unbeknownst to her and the nosy townspeople, Hall has been over Annie for some time. He just doesn't know how to convince Ellen of this truth. Then Ellen's half-sister Deirdre shows up with a dog the size of a small bear, needing a place to park him for the summer. Their complicated kinship adds another dimension to the story, as do vibrant secondary characters like Hall's best friend Susan and Scott, the laconic mechanic who fixes Deirdre's car and serves as her love interest. The denouement comes too soon, partly because the various story lines are tied up too easily but mostly because this is a book readers will want to savor.

Back to Shelter Rock Cove

This sequel to the wonderful "A Soft Place to Fall" is not as good as the first book, but it is sweet and lovely nevertheless, and a nice and easy read.
This trip back to the insular Maine town of Shelter Rock Cove focuses on ob/gyn Ellen Markowitz, a single woman in her thirties whose 6-month engagement has just ended as the book begins. There's really no love lost, but Ellen is justifiably humiliated and at loose ends, and the last thing on earth she needs is her hippie dippie half-sister Deirdre blowing into town without warning. But that's Deirdre, and this time she's not alone. She has a barely running old heap of a Hyundai, a large harp, a 110-pound dog named Stanley--and, as Ellen quickly finds out, an agenda.
And so begins a summer that changes many lives, including those of Ellen, her sister (and another one to boot), and her handsome, thrice-married medical partner, Hall Talbot, whose friendship means more than Ellen can admit.
This book is basic Bretton--not every loose end is tied up, not every plot line is explained, but who cares? The book, like all her work, is simply charming.

Held My Interest - A Great Story!

I read A LOT of romance novels and even some suspense, but there are very few contemporary romances that I could get into, although I'm not sure why.
This is the 2nd book I've read from Barbara Bretton. The other was Shore Lights which I like alot, but I'd have to say that "Girls of Summer" was better. It hooked my interested right away and held it the whole way through. I know it's a good book when I'm really sad when I get to the end.
I'm now looking for another book to read & I looked at "A Soft Place to Fall", but it's kind of hard since I started with the second in the series... I hate when I do that!
I will definitely be looking at other Barbara Bretton books in the future.

Terrific women's fiction with a great romance

Barbara Bretton returns to Shelter Rock Cove, scene of A SOFT PLACE TO FALL, and finally gives Hall Talbot a love story of his own. After being the "family friend" in A SOFT PLACE TO FALL, the good guy in love with the woman he can't have, Hall finally finds love -- and more family entanglements than anyone imagined. Ellen O'Brien Markowitz has spent her adult life trying to reconcile the disparate parts of her background with no luck. In her heart she will always be Dr. Markowitz's daughter, even if her DNA tells a different story. Her birth father, the feckless and charming Irish tenor Billy O'Brien, appeared in her life the year she turned fourteen and nothing has been the same since. When her half-sister Deirdre, a failed musician, comes to town with a one hundred pound dog, a broken-down car, and a bucket of problems, Ellen begins to discover that love and family are both worth fighting for. I just loved this book and highly recommend it.

About the Author
Philip J. Adler taught college courses in world history to undergraduates for almost thirty years prior to his recent retirement. Dr. Adler earned his Ph.D. at the University of Vienna following military service overseas in the 1950s. His dissertation was on the activity of the South Slav emigres during World War I, and his academic specialty was the modern history of Eastern Europe and the Austro-Hungarian empire. His research has been supported by Fulbright and the National Endowment for the Humanities grants. Adler has published widely in the historical journals of the U.S. and German-speaking Europe. He is currently professor emeritus at East Carolina University, where he spent most of his teaching career.

Randall L. Pouwels earned his B.A. in history at the University of Wisconsin and his Ph.D. in history at UCLA. His Ph.D. dissertation was on the history of Islam in East Africa. His book, HORN AND CRESCENT: CULTURAL CHANGE AND TRADITIONAL ISLAM ON THE EAST AFRICAN COAST, 800-1900 (Cambridge, 1987), has become a standard work in African history. THE HISTORY OF ISLAM IN AFRICA (Athens, Oxford, and Cape Town, 2000) was jointly edited with Nehemia Levtzion of Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Widely praised in reviews, it was selected by Choice as an Outstanding Academic Title for 2001 and was made a selection of the History Book Club. In addition, he has written numerous articles and reviews on East African history, the history of Islam in Africa, and historical methodologies. His other research interests include the history of the Middle East, the Indian Ocean, and the history and archaeology of Native Americans. Over the years, his work has been supported by grants and fellowships from Fulbright-Hays, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Social Studies Research Council, the National Geographic Society, and the American Philosophical Society. He has taught African history for over twenty years at LaTrobe University in Melbourne, Australia, and at UCLA. He has been the Professor of African and Middle Eastern History at the University of Central Arkansas since 1984.

Good book, good class, terrible teacher

Normally, I am really fascinated with World History, and this book did have some fascinating chapters. It really was the one thing keeping me awake and alive during my history class when I had a dinosaur for a teacher and I couldn't understand anything he said. I made it through the class because I basically read this book from start to finish. So this book helped guide me through it, even when the teacher was super boring.

Fast Deliverly. Good condition.

My textbook arrived within three days of purchasing it! Very happy about that! My only complaint was there were a few coffee stains on the first three pages, and the front cover's bottom left hand corner was bent which is really no big deal because all of the important pages are not damaged.

About the Author

Raymond A. Barnett, a native of California, received his B.A. in mathematical statistics from the University of California at Berkeley and his M.A. in mathematics from the University of Southern California. He has been a member of the Merritt College Mathematics Department, and was chairman of the department for four years. Raymond Barnett has authored or co-authored eighteen textbooks in mathematics, most of which are still in use. In addition to international English editions, a number of books have been translated into Spanish. Co-authors include Michael Ziegler, Marquette University; Thomas Kearns, Northern University; Charles Burke, City College of San Francisco; John Fuji, Merritt College; and Karl Byleen, Marquette University.

Michael R. Ziegler (late) received his B.S. from Shippensburg State College and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Delaware. After completing post doctoral work at the University of Kentucky, he was appointed to the faculty of Marquette University where he held the rank of Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. Dr. Ziegler published over a dozen research articles in complex analysis and co-authored eleven undergraduate mathematics textbooks with Raymond A. Barnett, and more recently, Karl E. Byleen.

Karl E. Byleen received his B.S., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from the University of Nebraska. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science of Marquette University. He has published a dozen research articles on the algebraic theory of semigroups.

Long on calculus, short on applications

As an engineer, professor of engineering and high school mathematics teacher, which included teaching AP Calculus and Business Calculus at the High School level, this book was disappointing. It has too many calculus topics and very little discussion of how to apply calculus to real world problems, in business, and other areas.

For example, there is a very long discussion, over twenty pages, of l'Hopitals rule and its variations. Classic calculus books by Thomas, for example, cover l'Hopitals rules in three of four pages, and business applications books such as Larson's "Brief Calculus", don't even mention the topic.

Business and other students only need to learn how to take the derivative of a few, basic functions, and then, more important, apply the derivative concepts to finding, for example, the price that maximizes profits or revenues.

This is really a Calculus book, not a Calculus applications book. Picking the important topics out of the over six hundred pages is left to the teacher. No wonder most teachers develop their class notes from a few, selected, and most important topics from the typical, mathematics text books written today.

Oh, for the good old days when mathematics text books were a couple of hundred pages long and every page covered an important topic with good explanation and only a few, not a hundred and fifty problems, on each topic for the student to practice. This is not meant to criticize this book per se, it is typical of too many mathematics texts written today. Maybe some authors will be encouraged by this review to write a text for business applications that is truly a business applications book... Concise on mathematics topics and strong on their applications.

Comes in handy, but not exactly satisfactory

The solutions presented in this book are pretty clear and easy to follow, however, they only solve the odd numbered problems. Which is a bit of a disappointment because the solutions for the odd numbered problems are already in the back of the original text... So I'm confused as to why I purchased this. At least a fair warning mentioning that it's not a complete solutions manual would've been nice. Not a complete waste of money, but still a disappointment.

MD Johnson has practiced divorce law for over 20 years and is currently the managing partner for a large family law group. Between litigation and mediation, he's seen thousands of marriages fail and been a firsthand witness to the collapse of wedding dreams. As a gay man, traveling the world, Mr. Johnson has also observed how that community has developed it's own structure for relationships. Thought provoking new ideas about the structure of relationships

What can I say about this book other than it is thought provoking, well written and gives an interesting new perspective on relationships and how couples enter in to them. First let me say, the writing is fantastic; easy to read, full of relevant, witty, anecdotal story telling. There is definitely a few paragraphs of statistics that I found to be a bit mundane, but all relevant to the ultimate point about how marriages, divorces, relationships, and technology have all morphed in the last ten to twenty years. With that being said, I think this book is very thought provoking. Whether you are gay or straight, I don't think it matters; and I actually don't think it matters if you believe in the "linear relationship" or the "pyramid relationship". What matters is how we all approach relationships and Johnson does a great job in providing tools to enhance a relationship from day one. Most of us (myself included) set unrealistic expectations on our potential love interests, or current love interests, and I think that Johnson certainly has some valid points on how to approach expectations in any relationship. Its not about whether or not you believe in monogamy, it is about living in a new reality that requires a new way of thinking and a new way in approaching relationships. Great read, would really recommend it for just about anyone.
