for the high price it was, I was expecting colored high quality papers. The good thing are what it contains of design hints and great deal of experience. Covers all aspects of burners (very comprehensive)

Good content but terrible construction

I've purchased several of the books by this author and have loved the content. The information contained is documented in not many other places and it is absolutely indispensable in the field of cleaner burner design that is being demanded in this day and age.
However, by its very title this book should be very well constructed and it is not. The other books by this author were signature sewn and bound to last the use a book with this much information in it should get. This book is thermo edge bound with very small margins. I would not expect it to last as a "handbook" should last. The gutter margin being as small as it is will make it next to impossible to even have it rebound in a more lasting fashion. Being this one of the most expensive books by this author I am very disappointed.

understand that "autumn" is represented by the sign for chopping down a tree (i.e.
"harvest"), I don't forget what I've learned. The CD ROM provides a basic understanding
of the grammar that the book cannot because of the visual interaction the CD shows with
motion that the book cannot. The book and CD, together, create a simple-to-understand
language course which becomes an excellent foundation to learning the language.

Following the six months of occassional study the book and CD have given me, my
entrace into a beginning course at the local community college is considerably easier.
My vocabulary and usage is greater and grammatically more accuarate. Neither the book
nor the CD will teach you the whole language. But they will give you an exposure in
easy-to-understand terms to what deaf people see in communication.
I strongly
recommend the use of the book AND CD ROM as your entrance into learing the
wonderfully colorful language of quiet communication. Together, it becomes the best
coordinated set of teaching materials I've seen on this subject in years of searching.

Easy to understand but lacking necessary words.

Great book for a novice. The illustrations are simple to understand and easy to remember through association. The only problem that I found was that when looking for any Christian words, such as God, Lord, or christian, I was left disappointed. There were also other words missing, such as storm, freedom, and so. I was left frustrated with incomplete phrases.

book gets 3 stars as an OK referance source. amazon rating page gets Only 1 star as it doesn't work well with phone connectivity yet. i really had to work hard to get to this area, and unkile texting or messaging, amazon hasn't fixed this area yet. on a rotated viev, i had only ONE line i could see at a time. they really should fix that. :-\ bc trying to correct an error is a nightmare. i had to start completely over three times. ~:-\

Gardener's Guide To Growing Orchids

I have 5 or 6 books on basic orchid care and this supasses all of them in depth of content. It is simple to understand and the pictures are breathtaking. More importantly, they examine every part of orchid care, not just the basic air, light, water. There are detailed instructions on how to hybridize your own orchids, which I have only seen before in costly advanced books. I feel this book is an excellent resource for the beginner who has an orchid or two and wishes to know more. It's a handy reference for "just the basics" as well.

True Beginners & Beginners w/ High Aspirations

As a windowsill orchid hobbyist who already owns a few beginner's books, I found this one to be beautifully designed with gorgeous photos and photographic step-by-step directions on full repotting (including root trimming), dropping on an orchid (moving a healthy but overgrown plant to a larger pot w/o touching root system), orchids in baskets, and mounting orchids on bark. The section on pests/disease is also very clearly articulated with large photographic examples.
The book does, however, go into quite a bit of detail about different types of orchid pollination, propagation, as well as greenhouse construction. While these topics might be interesting for the first-time grower, I'm a little unsure as to whether most "newbies" starting out with a handful of plants have THAT kind of space, time, or money to devote to the hobby, at least at first. I was also hoping for a bit more info on miniature orchids. Then again, coming from a f/t grad student who has to relocate herself and her orchids every 6-10 months, you may want to take that with a grain of salt! Buy this book? Yes! But you may later want something else that suits your specific growing conditions.

The book I keep going back to

I have been collecting and growing Orchids now for over 10 years but still consider myself a novice to Orchid science. I have read many books on Orchid keeping but find myself always going back to this book for refreshers and tips. I believe I owe my first Orchid re-bloom to this book. I highly recommend this book to both new and experienced lovers of Orchids.

Don't judge a book by its title.

Rich Froning: CrossFit Champion
A biography

I enjoyed reading about Rich Froning but only for a little while. It was interesting reading about his family and background and how he grew up and the book is at its best when Mr. Froning takes you through the games and competitions themselves.

It was not what I was expecting. There is nothing in this book about learning to be come a better athlete (mentally or physically) or a better CrossFit(er). In short, this is a very short biography with a lot of Born Again Christian themes.

Froning is a two time CrossFit Games Champion. He has beaten a lot of other people in some tough events. There is nothing detailed in the book about how he trains or what he eats. Just general stuff like:
"I work out five times a day...based on how I feel...I eat what a feel like..."
"I follow the Forrest Gump diet plan: when I'm hungry, I eat; when I'm thirsty, I drink."
"To get better at CrossFit do more CrossFit".

Yes, you have to push yourself beyond your mental barriers but how does Rich Froning do that? What does It Take for Rich Froning to do that over the last 2-4 years? That's what I was expecting based on the title and the reason I bought the book in the first place.

Enjoyable, fun read

If you have any inclination towards CrossFit, you'll enjoy this book. Rich chronicles his rapid rise to success in the CrossFit world, sharing his story from life on the farm to back-to-back "World's Fittest Man" titles. Reading this book is like sitting down with Rich over a cup of coffee. Or, more likely, over a protein shake after a WOD. (workout-of-the-day)

Every time I read a portion of the book, I wanted to throw it down and start working harder. Rich's work ethic and passion are infectious.

Equally infectious is Rich's faith.** It's genuine, and you see it laid bare in this book as he does battle against his own pride. I found his faith refreshing, bold, and courageous.

The big question Rich wrestles with throughout the book is, "What legacy am I going to leave when I die?"

Hopefully you're asking something similar.

For Rich, faith and fitness go hand-in-hand. I've found the same to be true, which is why the book resonated so well with me. When I'm disciplined with my body, I find myself more disciplined spiritually.

This is a great summer read. And a great read just in time for this year's CrossFit Games, as Rich looks to become the three-time champion for this sport.

Keep yout expectations low - writing is dull and just 'plain vanilla'

I admire the man and his story is very interesting... but his writing is not very interesting or captivating. It is rather shallow and does not make me feel like I know more about him - I do know his story but not HIM.

And that is okay - I wish him best of luck and he is an inspiration to many, and I hope he continues to change lives.... But this book left me feeling unfulfilled. Rich isn't a good story teller or a writer, so keep your expectations low.

The man might be 5 stars, but the book is 2-3 star territory. If he put as much effort into writing a compelling and colorful story as he does into multiple daily workouts, it would likely come out with a higher rating.
