This is the FIRST book in the War of Contractia. This series is partly inspired by Japanese/Korean light novels, manga/manwa and anime. It is completely DRM free and you have permission to change the format for your personal use.
This story is told mostly from the perspective of Peter, a magically talented young slave boy. Peter is of typical Contractian appearance, so has blue eyes, short blonde hair and pale skin. He is generally very mature for a twelve year old, often displaying wisdom far beyond his years, but in some ways and situations he is still just an innocent child. For now... Is his wisdom though just because of the incredibly hard life he has lived through, or is there another reason waiting to be revealed?
Peter starts this story in the Arena of Contractia where he must fight as a gladiator, but he will soon attend one of Contractia's great academies of magic. This is a school where poor grades mean execution! Contractia is a land ruled by the immortal and almighty queen, who has ruled for thousands of years. It is a land where most men are slaves and children are considered the property of their mothers. But change is coming. What does the future hold for Peter and the ancient land of Contractia?
This is a series which will see war waged between all manner of races, including humans, elves, dwarves, angels, demons and even the gods themselves. Will you join Peter on his adventures as he faces all manner of dangerous monsters and animals? Whether it is man eating bugs, fire breathing bats or devious goblins, innocent lives will be lost if they are not dealt with. That's before Peter even gets involved in the war!
The cover image depicts Peter on the (from your perspective) left and Rin on the right.
Please note that this series is unsuitable for young children mostly due to violent content and occasional (non explicit) references to matters of a romantic nature. There are also very rare generally innocent, but compromising situations.

Excellent anime-inspired series
By O. Chughtai
The beginning of the story is a bit awkward and hard to follow, but it gets interesting quickly, especially if you find harem type anime series enjoyable. While most of the story elements are heavily influenced by Japanese/Korean storytelling, it has enough of a distinct style to let it stand apart. I wouldn't call the story fast-paced, but it certainly is interesting and lets you get a feel for the MC's situation and life. As you get into the later volumes, the writing and story telling is definitely much better, but the cast of characters gets rather extensive and keeping track of which character is which can get more challenging.
Regardless, I've enjoyed the series so far, and would recommend that anyone who finds the description even mildly intriguing to give it a try.

Thoroughly Enjoyable
By Intentionz87
I found this book to be thoroughly enjoyable. I will first say that it is fantastic for simply having a decent length to the story. The main character has interesting dreams and goals and I like that some are his own and some come from the influence and advice of his friends but still remaining true to his own vision of what he wants. While the system of magic isn't explicit I find that the the characters learning more and yet not becoming all powerful appeals to me. The characters do seem to gain in ability but there always seems like there has been more that they learn.
Spoilers in part
Now while I enjoyed the book and gave it 5 stars some others may not all enjoy it. Peter is a boy however frequently doesn't act it. There isn't really a reason for his maturity other than having memories wiped and surviving as a slave in the arena. It could be fleshed out more in some areas.
This series may not be for everyone and I don't want to overanalyse the story. The end result of this is that
I REALLY enjoyed this book and I recommend it to everyone who likes magic fantasy. I hope others will enjoy it as much as I have.

Great once you get a few pages in
By JRR
The first few pages need some work, but I loved the book once I got into the story. Bought the second book right away, finished it, then bought the third just a few minutes ago when I saw it was up. I'm into the series enough to drop the book I was already reading and start on the third which should say something.
